Bridge of Dreams

The Bridge
of Dreams

The Bridge of Dreams spans the Mohican River. It is a pedestrian and bicycling bridge and part of the Mohican Valley Trail, a nature trail built on an abandoned railroad bed belonging to the old Pennsylvania Railroad. The bridge is closed to motorized traffic but is often used by Amish buggies. A railroad bridge at the site, carrying the Pennsylvania Railroad line over the river, was constructed in the 1920s. By the early 1990s, the line had been abandoned and a group of local residents and businesses developed a plan for converting it into a multi-use trail stretching from the Holmes County line near Brinkhaven, to Danville. The most ambitious aspect of the plan was to cover the 370 foot railroad bridge. Skeptics of this expensive plan claimed that its proponents were "dreaming", which led backers to adopt the name "Bridge of Dreams" for the project. Eventually planners were able to raise the money and the "Bridge of Dreams" was completed in December 1998 and dedicated in April 1999. The Mohican Valley Trail officially opened on June 15, 2001. Today the trail extends from East Street in Danville to the Holmes County Line, connecting the Kokosing Gap Trail and the Holmes County Trails.

Toots' Playground

Toot's
Playground

Lohman “Toots” Logston was the Mayor of Brinkhaven from 1958 to 1964. In 1957 Toots had the opportunity to own land in the center of the village where the Brinkhaven High School once stood. Toots purchased the property intending to give the land back to the community, selling it to the Village of Brinkhaven for $1.00. With this land, Toots and council members created a playground space for all to enjoy for years to come. In 2020 the Village council set out to update the playground. Using fundraising and grants they were able to raise enough to open the new Toot's playground. It consist of a basketball court, merry-go-round, swings, jungle gym and slides. Along with plenty of seating for parents to relax and enoy watching their kids play. Park closes at dark.

Brinkhaven Park

Brinkhaven Park/
Knox County Parks

Located between Brinkhaven and the Mohican River, this park is a fantastic spot for fishing enthusiasts. The river is home to a variety of fish, including smallmouth bass, rock bass, suckers, and catfish. The stretch of the Mohican which flows through this Wildlife Area is wide, and the pools are moderately deep, making it ideal for fishing. With occasional riffles and long pools, it is the perfect spot for catching all kinds of fish. The deep, clear pools below the whitewater riffles are particularly excellent places to use spinners, night crawlers, and soft craws to lure them in. The Knox County Park District has some exciting plans for the park property, including the addition of new amenities. Picnic shelters are already available, complete with electrical outlets, making it a perfect spot for a family outing. You can find the entrance to the park right next to the Hunter Road intersection of US Route 62 in Brinkhaven. The driveway and sign are visible from both US Route 62 and Main Street. The park is open to the public, but it closes at dark.
